The honest scope note: no smog checks here
In California, "vehicle inspection" often means the registration smog check - and that's the one inspection we don't perform (it requires a licensed smog station, which we are not). What we do: mechanical, safety, and pre-purchase inspections that document visible mechanical and safety findings within the requested scope. Need smog? We'll happily point you to a good station nearby.
Is an inspection the same as a diagnosis?
No - and the difference protects your wallet. An inspection documents what technicians can see within a defined scope: brakes measured, fluids checked, tires and suspension looked over, and visible findings photographed where useful. A diagnosis is instrumented detective work on one specific problem - why this light, why this noise. The courtesy inspection included with a repair or service visit is free. A standalone pre-purchase inspection is a separate flat $199 service. Diagnosis is its own service, normally $199 and applied to the repair or service when you have the work done here. We'll always tell you which one your situation calls for.
What happens after the inspection?
The report can be texted to you or provided in print, with photos, notes, and clear priorities within the inspection scope. Anything urgent gets explained, anything that can wait gets said plainly, and nothing moves forward without your approval. The report gives you and your advisor one shared, vehicle-specific reference for the conversation that follows.
