Fiat - Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino - has been building cars since 1899, when its first Turin plant employed a few dozen people making a couple dozen cars a year. It grew into Italy's automotive giant, and its modern American ambassador, the Fiat 500, brought Italian city-car charm to South Bay streets. Charm deserves competence: Hillside Auto Repair is the Torrance shop that speaks Fiat.
The Fiats we service
- 500 and 500c - the city car that made small cool again, hardtop and cabrio
- Abarth - the scorpion-badged hot version, tiny and gloriously loud
- 500X - the crossover cousin with the same personality
- 500e - the electric one; everything the road touches is our work

Small car, real engineering
Fiats are dense little machines: turbocharged engines that insist on correct oil and intervals, cooling systems with no room for neglect, clutches and transmissions that reward gentle honesty about wear, and Italian electronics best handled with proper diagnostics and good humor. Since Fiat's dealer network thinned, owners need an independent that knows these cars - that's us.
Fiat service at Hillside
We know these cars: photos of what we find, plain-language findings, written quotes, and the 2-year / 24,000-mile warranty. Parts sourcing included - we know where the good ones live.
Fiat scope, stated straight: every Fiat is welcome here. Gas and hybrid cars get the full range - engine work, brakes, suspension, electrical, all ordinary work for us, and we see plenty of them. On the all-electric 500e we do everything the road touches: brakes, suspension, steering, tires, air filters, the 12-volt battery. The one thing we leave to the manufacturer is the high-voltage drive battery, and we tell you which is which before any work.
Hearing or feeling something specific? Two taps in our Symptom Checker points you to the right page - and tells you straight when a symptom means stop driving and when it can wait.
How Fiat schedules its maintenance
The Fiat 500 family keeps it simple: a factory table in miles and months, with an oil-change indicator watching real-world driving underneath it. Short trips are the hardest thing you can do to oil, and around here most miles are short trips. That is exactly what the oil-change indicator is watching for.
We service what the light calls for and keep the rest of the table on schedule, reset included.
Since 1984, amico of the little Italians
Torrance to the beach cities, Fiat drivers keep their cars because they're joyful. Keep yours joyful and healthy - book online or call, and we'll take care of the rest.
The right oil change interval for your Fiat
Every Fiat model has its own factory interval - modern engines commonly run 5,000-10,000 miles between changes, and your owner's manual (or maintenance reminder) has the exact number. We follow Fiat's schedule to the letter, and the free inspection confirms what's due. More on our car maintenance page.
