Tune-Ups & 30k/60k/90k Scheduled Maintenance

Sluggish acceleration, slipping fuel economy, a rougher idle than you remember - the classic "needs a tune-up" feelings are real, even if the tune-up itself has changed. Points and carburetors are history; the modern tune-up is a focused service on the parts that still wear - spark plugs, ignition components, filters - plus the factory-scheduled maintenance your manufacturer designed for your engine. Hillside Auto Repair does both, by the book, since 1984.

Tune-up vs. regular maintenance - what's the difference?

Routine maintenance (oil changes, fluid checks, rotations) keeps the car operating as intended day to day. A tune-up goes a step further into the engine's performance parts: it restores how the car starts, idles, accelerates, and sips fuel. The two work together - and the smartest schedule is the one your owner's manual already wrote.

What's in a modern tune-up at Hillside

  • Spark plug replacement - the heart of the job; worn plugs cause misfires, rough idle, hard starts, and wasted fuel
  • Ignition system inspection - coils, wiring, and the components that fire those plugs
  • Engine air filter replacement - clean airflow your engine can breathe
  • Fuel filter/fuel system assessment - where applicable, keeping delivery clean and consistent
  • Belts, hoses, PCV valve, and a full inspection of the systems around them

30k / 60k / 90k: factory scheduled maintenance

Your manufacturer publishes exactly what your car needs at each mileage milestone - and following it is the least expensive way to keep a car reliable. At Hillside we perform 30,000, 60,000, and 90,000-mile services (and every interval between) to the factory checklist: fluids, filters, plugs when due, inspections and adjustments - documented, so your service history stays dealer-grade without dealer pricing. It's also how small problems get caught at the 60k service instead of on the 405.

When should you come in?

Depending on the engine design, manufacturers set plug and ignition intervals anywhere between 30,000 and beyond 100,000 miles - but symptoms outrank schedules. Hard starts, hesitation, a flashing check engine light, or fuel economy sliding are all invitations. Not sure where your car stands? We'll look up your factory schedule and tell you exactly what's due and what can wait.

Why plugs matter more than they look: the spark gap erodes a little every mile until misfires begin stealing fuel economy before you ever feel them. Pair that with a clean air filter - engines are air pumps, and restricted breathing costs real mileage - and a tune-up is mostly about giving the engine back its efficiency.

Performance restored, the honest way

No padded "tune-up packages," no replacing parts with life left in them - just the services your engine is due for, done right, with the free digital inspection watching everything else. That's four decades of Torrance trust talking.
