Resolve to Take
Batter Care of Your Car in 2006
by Dave
Carney
Many of us customarily begin each New
Year by making resolutions. Similarly,
when we buy a new car we frequently
resolve to take better care of this car
than the last one.
So, in this column, the Car Care Tips
will address the care of your car’s
exterior and interior rather than
automotive service and repair.
A CLEAN CAR IS A HAPPY CAR! The benefits
of keeping your car clean and
waxed are that you will feel better
about driving your car and will want to
continue to take care of it; driving
will be more enjoyable; and most
importantly, your car will last longer
and will have a better resale value.
BEWARE OF THE SUN! The sun’s UV rays
are the ultimate culprits in breaking
down the paint on your car.
PLAN OF ACTION: Get a car wash at least
once a month and a coat of wax once a
year. Or, better still; have your car
professionally detailed annually. A
detail service can make your car look
and feel brand new. Professional
detailing service includes the use of
chemicals and polishes to remove
oxidation and scratches in the clear
coat, and waxes to restore the luster
and shine of the original paint and to
provide maximum protection. The use of
professional products, available only to
industry trade, truly do make a very big
difference.
DON’T FORGET THE WHEELS, FLOOR MATS &
WINDOWS! It is also
important to protect your wheels by
removing the brake dust that gets
imbedded in them. To do so requires a
chemical process, as soap and water do
not always suffice. Additionally, the
floor mats will look better and wear
longer after shampooing. And, your car’s
vinyl or leather interior should be
cleaned and dressed, too, for the same
reason. The inside of the windows need
professional care to remove the film,
which builds up on them due to the
out-gassing of the fabrics.
GREAT GIFT IDEA: An Auto Detail Service
is one of the nicest gifts you can give
anyone for a birthday, Mother’s Day,
Father’s Day or any special occasion.
Why? Because every time he or she gets
into their car in the subsequent six
months, they will smile and think of
you.
In closing, I encourage you to resolve
to make 2006 the year that your car
looks as good as you do! Safe, happy
motoring!
